Lynn Viehl--Frostfire (Kyndred Novel)

As one of the genetically enhanced Kyndred, Lilah can read and control the minds of animals. Rescuing a group of kids from a wayward bear brings her to the attention of GenHance, the shadowy biotech company willing to murder to acquire super-human DNA. After being drugged and abducted, Lilah wakes up handcuffed to a half-dead man in a refrigerated truck.

Walker, a soldier critically wounded in Afghanistan, is brought back to life by Lilah's warmth and determination, and resolves to do anything he can to free and protect her. But as the two struggle to escape their grim fate, they stumble upon a remote town hiding a dark secret, and learn that Lilah is also being hunted by someone she never expected to fear: a Kyndred friend.

{Loved it, great read}
I loved the Darkyn series, but I have had trouble falling in love with the Kyndred series. I spent most of this book going huh?? Never really sure exactly what was going on. It seemed as though there were several separate stories going on with unclear ties to each other. Walker and Lilah are a great couple, struggling with their tragic lives, only to find each other and find the other half of their soul. Most of the questions and huh moments were pulled together at the end. I still want to know more about the "people" of Frenchman's Pass and how they will tie in with the series. But all in all, I liked the book. I'm glad I didn't give up on the series.

Kristina Douglas--Raziel (The Fallen #1)

Nothing is more powerful than blood. — Kristina Douglas's sexy new series introduces a realm of fallen angels and ruthless demons, where an eternal rebellion is brewing... and one unsuspecting woman can change the fate of the Fallen forever.

SHE WAS JUST AN ORDINARY MORTAL...

"You're dead" is so not what Allie Watson wants to hear. Unfortunately, it explains a lot. Like the dark, angelically handsome man who ferried her to this strange, hidden land. The last thing she remembers is stepping off a curb in front of a crosstown bus. Now she's surrounded by gorgeous fallen angels with an unsettling taste for blood -- and they really don't want her around. Not exactly how she pictured heaven.

...UNTIL DEATH CATAPULTED HER INTO A SEDUCTIVE WORLD SHE NEVER IMAGINED.

Raziel is unsure why he rescued Allie from hellfire against Uriel's orders, but she stirs in him a longing he hasn't felt in centuries. Now the Fallen are bracing for the divine wrath brought by his disobedience, and they blame Allie for the ferocious Nephilim clawing at the kingdom's shrouded gates. Facing impossible odds at every turn, the two must work together to survive. Raziel will do anything to defend his spirited lover against the forces of darkness -- because Allie may be the Fallen's only salvation.

***** (5 stars)
Absolutely captivating. This series is a new take on the whole vampire/angel theme. It has a lot of religious reference as the skeleton of the story, but it does not bog it down. At the core of the book is the passionate journey of Raziel and Allie. Allie is stubborn, strong willed, and not afraid to speak her mind. Raziel has existed for centuries and is not used to his women being outspoken and defiant. Their path is very humorous, and I found their sense of humor great. When all hell breaks loose when the Nephilim breach the gate aided by a traitor, they finally come together and realize their bond. I enjoyed this book so much I read it in one day and will preorder the next one. If you like Nalini Singh's Archangel series, you will love this one too.

Kresley Cole--Dreams of a Dark Warrior (Immortals After Dark series)

It’s a gripping tale of a battle-maddened warrior driven by revenge and the Valkyrie temptress who haunts his dreams. — He vowed he'd come for her... — Murdered before he could wed Regin the Radiant, warlord Aidan the Fierce seeks his beloved through eternity, reborn again and again into new identities, yet with no memories of his past lives -- only an endless yearning.

She awaits his return...

When Regin encounters Declan Chase, a brutal Celtic soldier, she recognizes her proud warlord reincarnated. But Declan takes her captive, intending retribution against all immortals, unaware that he belongs to their world.

To sate a desire more powerful than death...

Yet every reincarnation comes with a price, for Aidan is doomed to die when he remembers his past. To save herself from Declan's torments, will Regin rekindle the memories of the passion they once shared -- even if it means once again losing the only man she could ever love.

*** (3 stars)
I generally love Cole's books, but I just couldn't muster any affection for this one. It really dragged for me, was way too long, and I put it down at least 6 times to read something else. Today I was set on finishing it, but hours later I found myself skimming pages finally skipping about 250 pages in the middle to read the last few chapters. Maybe its the fact that Cole takes us back to the same beginning as the last book to tell someone elses tale, I don't really know. And I didn't get hooked into Regin and Declan's love story. I just couldn't get thru it, and even though all the other reviews love it, I just felt happy to have it "sorta" finished. That being said, I am not giving up on the series, not all the books will be "hits" for everyone.

For years he has been a silent warrior and guardian, operating independent of government protocol or oversight, leading his team of Elite Ops agents to fight against terror at all costs. A MAGNET FOR ONE WOMAN-Tehya Talamosi, codename Enigma, is a force to be reckoned with. A woman this striking spells nothing but trouble for Jordan. Armed with killer secrets--and a body to die for--she'll bring Jordan to his knees as they both take on the most deadly mission they have ever faced. Because this time, it's personal....

*** (3.5 stars)
Is this the end of the Elite Ops series?? It looks like everyone on the team is matched up. I was looking forward to Jordan's story, and even though it was somewhat predictable and the end was a little anti-climatic, I still loved Jordan and Teyha's story, they have a passion for one another that drives you to a cold shower from the pure heat of their sexual drive for each other. But now that we know who was really aligned with Sorrell and the truth to Teyha's entire life of running and hiding. I was expecting a little more from the conclusion. I was a little disappointed in the ending, but overall I'm ok with the story.

My only true complaint was the editing, will someone please proof-read these books before publishing!

Rhyannon Byrd--Rush of Darkness (Primal Instinct series)

Raine Spenser is on the brink. Held prisoner because of her abilities, Raine—a powerful psychic as well as vampire desperately needed a savior. But the last one she expected was the green-eyed soldier who’d once hunted her kind. Since her rescue, she’s tried to forget Seth McConnell, unable to cope with the strange, simmering attraction that draws her to the compelling human. But their goals—find the Kraven who held Raine captive and destroy him—are the same. The ever-growing web of danger surrounding them draws these two unlikely allies closer together, and anger slowly turns into an explosive passion they’re finding harder and harder to deny....

*** (3.5 stars)
I really like this series, its just different enough to be really interesting. Each couple are from different species, with different issues, baggage, and paths to take. With Seth and Raine, Seth helped rescue her when she was being held captive by Westmore and became instantly fascinated with her. Unable to let her go, Seth follows her when she leaves the compound to avenge the death of her sister. Both Seth and Raine have some very damaged past to overcome, he was a collective soldier who killed vampires and she IS a vampire. Lots of scars and guilt. They are both strong characters, but at times seemed a little wimpy and whinny. Almost like they were channeling their 16 year old virgin selves. But at least with them they weren't stopping to have sex in the most inappropriate places. (Byrd tends to do that sometimes). The war with the Casus has taken some interesting turns and the end was not as climactic as I had hoped, but it seems that the war is not over yet. We have new things escaping from hell......

Gena Showalter--The Darkest Secret (Lords of the Underworld)

Keeper of the demon of Secrets, Amun can manipulate the darkest thoughts of anyone nearby. But when the immortal warrior is chained and isolated to protect those he loves, death is his only hope of release—until he meets Haidee, a fellow prisoner whose beauty and hidden vulnerability draw him into a reckless test of his loyalty….

Haidee is a demon-assassin, raised to despise Amun's kind. Yet how can she hate the man whose touch sets her aflame? But to save him, she must give herself body and soul…and face the wrath of a powerful adversary sworn to destroy her.

**** (4 stars)
Well......not my most favorite of the series, I like Amun's story. And Haidee was a very intersting character. Add to that the drama with Strider and his "vacation" with Paris and William and it is not a bad read. My only 'con', is that it was about 50 pages too long for me. Just a little too much dialogue and flash-backs for me. Still a good story though. And I can't wait to see what is in store for Strider.....sounds very interesting. Paris and William have some interesting paths happening in this book also. Its not always a good thing to have bored Lords running around......

Larissa Ione--Eternal Rider (Lords of Deliverance)

They are here. — They ride. — The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse. — His name is Ares, and the fate of mankind rests on his powerful shoulders. If he falls to the forces of evil, the world falls too. As one of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse, he is far stronger than any mortal, but even he cannot fight his destiny forever. Not when his own brother plots against him.

Yet there is one last hope. Gifted in a way other humans can't -- or won't -- understand, Cara Thornhart is the key to both this Horseman's safety and his doom. But involving Cara will prove treacherous, even beyond the maddening, dangerous desire that seizes them the moment they meet. For staving off eternal darkness could have a staggering cost: Cara's life.

**** (5 stars)
Wow....completely entranced with this book. It spins off from the Demonica series, so you know some of the players already. But this can be a stand-alone series. I suggest you read the Demonica series first to know everyone (and love them as I do) before jumping into this one. Larissa has a way with desciption, sexual tension, and emersing you in a world without description. I love Ares and Cara, what a great couple!!! For awhile you could never tell just how things would turn out between them, they just couldn't catch a break. But true love has a way of beating all the odds. Lots of characters in this one, each with their own story and personality, even the animals. This is one that I would say you should rush out and read immediately.

J.R. Ward--Lover Unleashed (Black Dagger Brotherhood)

Payne, twin sister of Vishous, is cut from the same dark, seductive cloth as her brother. Imprisoned for eons by their mother, the Scribe Virgin, she finally frees herself -- only to face a devastating injury. — Manuel Manello, MD, is drafted by the Brotherhood to save her as only he can -- but when the human surgeon and the vampire warrior meet,... more » their two worlds collide in the face of their undeniable passion. With so much working against them, can love prove stronger than the birth right and the biology that separate them.

*****(5 stars)

WOW!! I think this is my favorite next to John Matthews story. There is so much going on in this book. Vishous/Jane, Payne/Manny, Vishous/Butch, and Quinn/Blay. And new characters are introduced. There are plenty of unanswered questions in this story, the war with the "lessers" doesn't progress much, and there are the new characters to whose true purpose is unclear. And this story has a whole lot more sex going on....with everyone. I have read the other reviews, and I don't agree with them at all. I was hooked into this story and couldn't put it down. JR Ward is a great story teller, and I'm fatally attached to her series.
