Chloe Neill-Twice Bitten (Chicagoland Vampires Novel)

Merit, Chicago's newest vampire, is learning how to play well with others. Other supernaturals, that is. Shapeshifters from across the country are convening in the Windy City, and as a gesture of peace, Master Vampire Ethan Sullivan has offered their leader a very special bodyguard: Merit. Merit is supposed to protect the Alpha, Gabriel Keene--and to spy for the vamps while she's at it. Oh, and luckily Ethan's offering some steamy, one-on-one combat training sessions to help her prepare for the mission.

Merit must accept the assignment, even though she knows that she'll probably regret it. And she's not wrong. Someone is gunning for Gabriel Keene, and Merit soon finds herself in the line of fire. She'll need all the help she can get to track down the would-be assassin, but everywhere she turns, there are rising tensions between supernaturals--not least between her and a certain green-eyed, centuries old master vampire.

**spoiler alert**
I just can't get enough of Merit. Even thought she seems to flow from one drama filled explosion to another, she finds humor to deal with her crazy life. Ethan and Merit finally cross that line, and then Ethan panicks. It crushed me how he handled the situation, but things are looking up for the couple. It seems that Ethan is not going to give up on winning Merit back. This time around the chaos is full of shifter family drama that drags Merit into the middle and wounds the Cadogan house--literally--with an attack and fire. But none of my favorite character are lost. Start at the beginning of this series to get the full scope, you won't be disappointed.

Jaime Rush--Burning Darkness (The Offspring Series)

They live ordinary lives, but they are extraordinary. They are the Offspring, children of a mysterious experiment gone awry -- and they are in terrible danger. — A government-trained assassin, Fonda Raine has her sights locked on her latest target: Eric Aruda, one of the rogue Offspring -- a pyrokenetic who can create fires with just a thought. But Fonda has awesome powers of her own -- and her ability to astral project and be in two places at one time enables her to put herself exactly where she wants to be... in Eric's bed.

Eric is stunned and pleased by the inexplicable appearance of the mysterious enchantress, unaware that Fonda plans to seduce him, throw him off his guard, and then eliminate him. But the game changes radically with the arrival of an assassin from hell with orders to destroy them both. And suddenly Fonda and Eric have only two choices: to join forces or go down in flames.

***** (5 stars)
Excellent!! This is my favorite one of this series so far, Eric has always been a hard pain-in-the-ass character that you love to hate. And now we get to see him come undone, face his demons, and help Fonda overcome hers. All while on the run and trying to kill off their enemies. A lot gets answered in this book, and it seems almost like this could be the end of the story. But no, Rush has more for us to read. This book was a page-turning addiction for me, reading it all in one day. Eric and Fonda are a great couple, and I really enjoyed their journey. It was passionate, drama filled, and in the end, worth it all. You can read this book without reading the others, but I recommend starting at the beginning so you get the full impact.

Jacquelyn Frank--Seduce Me in Dreams (Three Worlds Novel)

Dark. Mysterious. Sensual. When Bronse Chapel, the commander of a specialized unit of the Interplanetary Militia, begins to dream about a beautiful and exotic brunette, he wants to dismiss it as being induced by lack of sleep . . . or perhaps lack of sex. But his instincts tell him it’s something different, something far more dangerous.

Ravenna is the leader of the Chosen Ones, a small group of people from her village born with extraordinary powers. She doesn’t know what draws her to Bronse’s dreams night after night, but she senses that he and his team are in jeopardy. Ravenna can help him, but first Bronse must save the Chosen Ones from those who plan to use their powers for evil. Together, Bronse and Ravenna will be unstoppable. But Ravenna is hiding something that could endanger them all.

***** (5 stars)
Another hit!!! I am amazed with each book the level of imagination Frank has, she can detail a new world and make it come alive without weighing down the story with too much detail. This story is a little on the science fiction side, but not so much to be confusing. All of the characters are great, each one has a unique personality and brings something to the story. Bronse and Ravenna are brought together by dreams and an assassin trying to kill Bronse. I hope we see more of this little troop of characters in the future.

Pamela Palmer--Hunger Untamed (Feral Warriors Novel)

They are called Feral Warriors -- an elite band of immortals who can change shape at will. Sworn to rid the world of evil, consumed by sorcery and seduction, their wild natures are primed for release . . .

For a thousand years she has haunted him -- Ariana, Queen of the Ilinas, a beauty of mist and light. His love, his life mate . . . Kougar believed her lost to him forever, until the truth of her stunning betrayal left him bitter and hungry for revenge. Now she alone holds the power to save two trapped and desperate Feral Warriors.

Ariana, caught in a deadly battle of her own, is neither the soulless creature Kougar believes her to be nor the savior he seeks.

And when darkness threatens to annihilate both races, the greatest danger of all becomes the glorious love Kougar and Ariana once shared. A love that must never rise again. A love that has never died.

"spoiler alert"

Not my favorite of this series. I can't quite put my finger on the exact reason, but I found myself skimming pages of internal dialogue with Kougar and Ariana. Their love story did not spark anything for me. I was way more interested in the characters around them. It almost seemed like this book was just a bridge to get you to something else, maybe the next book. I really wanted to see more of Wulfe and Natalie's interaction. Even though she has been sent back to her real human life, maybe she will return to make Wulfe happy. And why couldn't Ariana free the other spirits trapped so that they may find new feral warriors? All in all, this story left me scratching my head, and bored enough that I am not sad its over. I am by no means giving up on this series, not all the books will be "hits" and I'm looking forward to seeing who's story is next, maybe Hawke, or Wulfe?

Patricia Briggs--River Marked (Mercy Thompson novel)

Car mechanic Mercy Thompson has always known there was something different about her, and not just the way she can make a VW engine sit up and beg. Mercy is a shapeshifter, a talent she inherited from her long-gone father. She’s never known any others of her kind. Until now. — An evil is stirring in the depths of the Columbia River -- one t... more »hat her father’s people may know something about. And to have any hope of surviving, Mercy and her mate, the Alpha werewolf Adam, will need their help.

***** (5 stars)
I have missed Mercy! And as usual she has gotten herself into another fight to the death. Adam and Mercy head off for their honeymoon (finally, than god!) and land right back into the middle of a supernatural drama. This book takes a different route through the supernatural world than the previous ones. This brings you closer to Mercy's true roots in American Indian culture, and is just as fascinating. I don't want to give to many details away, but this is a page turning obsession. I read it in one afternoon, barely putting it down. It does leave most of "the pack" behind and focuses on Mercy and Adam. They are just about my most favorite couple, I can't get enough of them. And the sense of humor Briggs writes with leaves me laughing out loud. What will Mercy get herself into next? This books ending is a little abrupt and doesn't leave us with any hints as to the next one. But I will have it on pre-order as soon as I can order it. For anyone who has not read this series, start at the beginning. Don't let the cover fool you, Mercy is a great character as are all the others Briggs brings to this series. I love them all!

Shayla Black--Surrender to Me (Wicked Lovers)

A secret fantasy.

Hunter had everything until a bullet iced his career as a Navy SEAL. Restless and uncertain about his future, he accepts an intriguing proposition: share an acquaintance's girlfriend and fulfill her fantasy of a ménage. It should have been just a night of sexual adventure between three consenting adults. But Kata is like no other girl Hunter has ever met. By turns audacious and sexy, then vulnerable and aloof, she's a heartbreaker he's determined to master. But he needs more than one night. And he wants to do it alone.

An uncontrollable obsession.

Kata never expected to leave her comfortable relationship and explore something so dangerously forbidden with a stranger. Hard as she tries to resist, the guilty pleasure overwhelms her, and she surrenders herself, inch by inch, to the hardcore man who wants her for himself. Consumed by blazing desire, they're soon threatened by the shadows of the past. And now to keep Kata safe, Hunter makes her a bold proposition of his own. Saying yes will destroy her heart. But saying no could cost Kata her life.

**** (5 stars)
SCORCHING!!! Another hit for Shayla Black. On leave due to an injury, Hunter takes a friend up on an invitation. But once he lays eyes on Kata, he knows she is the one and he will NOT share her. Kata is overwhelmed by Hunter, and once her life is threatened, has to rely on him to keep her safe. I really enjoyed their story, and the threat to her life is not who you think it is, I didn't see this one coming. We see some of our previous couples make appearences, and I enjoyed the update to their lives. Hunter and Kata's story is a very passionate, steamy, emotional ride. (cold shower worthy) I read this book in one day, I was unable to put it down! You don't have to read this series in order, but to know who the other characters are, it would be a great ride...
