J.D. Tyler--Primal Law (An Alpha Pack Novel)

Paranomral-shifter-special ops

A Top Secret team of shifters, founded by a group of former Navy SEALS, employ their Psy and shifting abilities to seek out and eradicate the world’s most lethal human and non-human predators. These men are thrill seekers whose appetites for danger are equaled only by their unrepentant, raw sexuality.
Yet these tough warriors are hesitant to engage their hearts, and fear they’re destined to forever walk alone. Their universe is a dangerous place, their lives constantly at risk, futures uncertain. But they’ll brave hell itself to claim the mates they love…

After a massacre leaves Jaxon Law crippled, he must relearn how to fight -- and battle the anger and guilt threatening to overwhelm him. But when Jax rescues a beautiful woman who awakens his primal instincts, he is unprepared for the dangers that lie ahead. Soon he must decide if the deep connection he feels with Kira is worth defying the ultimate shifter law...

{4 stars}
I have to say I was pleasantly surprised by this book. The base story line of shifters either being recruited by the military or military men being turned into shifters is not new. But Tyler adds her own twists with a cast of extras that really made this book sweet. I know sweet doesn't sound like its a passionate romantic story. But its the best way I can describe it. Kira falls head first into this world and seems to roll with the otherworldly changes like a true champ. Jax has a lot of regret to overcome and can't quite seem to come to terms with his feelings for Kira. They seem to almost have this first love, kind of thing going. Sweet really, but their passion breaks through all his hangups and they let passion take its course. Throw in the cast of paranormal refugees, Blue and Chup Chup,  and its a very charming, almost simple book (even with the rescues, bullets, and life risking drama).  Kept me captivated all the way through and I can't wait to read the next one. J.D. Tyler is an author to keep an eye on.
