J. R. Ward--Lover at Last (Black Dagger Brotherhood #11)

Paranormal Romance-vampire-m/m

Qhuinn, son of no one, is used to being on his own. Disavowed from his bloodline, shunned by the aristocracy, he has finally found an identity as one of the most brutal fighters in the war against the Lessening Society. But his life is not complete. Even as the prospect of having a family of his own seems to be within reach, he is empty on the inside, his heart given to another....

Blay, after years of unrequited love, has moved on from his feelings for Qhuinn. And it’s about time: The male has found his perfect match in a Chosen female, and they are going to have a young—just as Qhuinn has always wanted for himself. It’s hard to see the new couple together, but building your life around a pipe dream is just a heartbreak waiting to happen. As he’s learned firsthand.

Fate seems to have taken these vampire soldiers in different directions... but as the battle over the race’s throne intensifies, and new players on the scene in Caldwell create mortal danger for the Brotherhood, Qhuinn finally learns the true definition of courage, and two hearts who are meant to be together... finally become one.

For any true BDB fan, this has been the story we have all waited for. It has been an angst riddled journey waiting for the outcome of Qhuinn and Blay. And this was one of my most anticipated books of the year. I am happy and sad at the same time, happy that Blay and Qhuinn finally got their story. I have loved the both of them through every phase of their journey, and I am so happy with the outcome. But sad that this chapter may be closed. I enjoyed their angst filled journey, but we have to move on.  I want so badly to spill out all the spoilers because I loved this book! I want to turn around and read it all over again. But I will control myself and say that this is THE MUST READ for any true BDB fan. You can't have come this far with this series and stop here. The series is taking another turn with new characters and a new war to fight, and it just keeps getting better and better, I never bore of the Brotherhood. (the BDB are my obsession next to the Darkhunters). And rumor has it we will return to Wrath and Beth with the release of "The King" in 2014.

Lara Adrian--Edge of Dawn (Midnight Breed #11)

Paranormal Romance-Vampire

Twenty years after the terror of First Dawn—when mankind learned that vampires lived secretly among them—the threat of violence reigns as the two species struggle to coexist. The only group preserving the fragile harmony is the Order, an elite cadre of Breed warriors dedicated to protecting humans and vampires alike. And in this precarious world of torn loyalties and shattered trust, Mira, a fiery squad captain, finds that every fight bears an intensely personal cost.

Raised among the Order, Mira has always believed in the warrior’s code of swift—and even lethal—justice. But the one thing she desires more than the Order’s hard-won acceptance is Kellan Archer, a sexy but troubled Breed fighter. In love with him since childhood, Mira once broke through his tough exterior during an unexpected night of rapture, but the next day he mysteriously disappeared, never to return.

Kellan didn’t think he would ever see Mira again—or have to confront the truth of why he left. After abandoning the Order years ago, he now leads a band of human rebels intent on carrying out their own vigilante rule of law. Yet a high-profile kidnapping assignment brings him face-to-face with the past he sought to avoid, and the striking woman he has tried desperately to forget. And as tensions mount and the risk of bloodshed grows, Kellan and Mira must take sides—between the competing missions that dominate their lives, and the electrifying passion that claims their hearts.

All you die hard Midnight Breed fans can relax. LA did a great job jumping the series into a new world. It did take me a little bit of time to adjust. We are, after all, jumping 20 years ahead. And the next generation of Breed are all grown up with lives and loves of their own. Once you get adjusted to this new era, we fall right back into the Midnight Breed we all know and love. LA has not left us without our Alpha heroes and our equally strong heroins. And all of our favorite originals are still around to make appearances in the series. Mira was always one of my favorites before, and now she has really become the character to love. I have to admit, at first I couldn't remember who Kellen was, but LA fills in all the gaps so we flow through the story without any major hiccups. This was an incredible "jump" into a new era for the Midnight Breed and will keep this series growing with new characters and a whole new enemy to fight. I am excited all over again like I was when reading the first few books in the series, really looking forward to the next one!

R. E. Butler--Jason & Cadence (Wolf's Mate #1)

Paranormal Romance-adult

For 14 years, alpha wolf Jason has watched his partially marked mate Cadence live her life without him. Circumstances force his hand and he must find a way to get her to uncover her buried memories of their past before someone else steps up to take her from him.

For as long as she can remember, hybrid wolf Cadence has loved Jason with every fiber of her being, but he’s consistently shoved her away until the love that’s there is bound tightly in anger and shame. No one can take his place in her heart, but that doesn’t mean that there aren’t wolves willing to try.

Will Cadence be able to get through Jason’s icy demeanor to the heart of the boy she’s always loved? Can Jason undo the past so they will have a future together?

This book contains red-hot werewolf loving, plenty of neck biting, and misuse of a kitchen counter. The Wolf’s Mate is a book for mature audiences only and contains sexually explicit content.

Started out thinking this was just another "time killer" shifter book, but was pleasantly surprised by it. The synopsis doesn't really do it justice, and thankfully we weren't hit over the head with an overwhelming amount of world building. Cadence is a great alpha female character, she shows all her traits, good and bad, strong and emotional. Jason is the alpha of his pack, but not so overwhelmingly that you want to scream. They have been together since they were kids (in their hearts anyway). Jason just went about everything the wrong way. And when he almost loses her to another, he finally pulls his head out and claims her. The surrounding cast of characters are great, Casie and Michael make excellent side kicks. And i really enjoyed this book, looking forward to reading the rest of the series.

Kristen Ashley--Raid (Unfinished Hero #3)

Contemporary Adult Romance

Hanna Boudreaux has lived in the small town of Willow, Colorado all her life. The great-granddaughter of the town matriarch, she's sweet, cute and quiet.

Too quiet.

Hanna has a moment of epiphany when she realizes her crush for forever, Raiden Ulysses Miller, is not ever going to be hers. She sees her life as narrow and decides to do something about it.

Raiden Miller is the town of Willow's local hero. An ex-marine with the medal to prove his hero status, he comes home, shrouded in mystery. It takes a while but, eventually, Hanna catches his eye.

But after all these years of Raid and Hanna living in the same town, the question is, why? Is Raid interested in Hanna because she's sweet and cute? Or does Raid have something else going on?

Raid and Hannah really brought this series together for me. The first two books could have really been stand alones, but now I see the series developing. And out of the three, Raid and Hannah are my favorite (Knight and Ally second). Raid is the far more damaged soul in this one and its up to Hannah to save him from his demons. His past haunts him in ways very few people can identify with unless you have been to war. Hannah has loved Raid since she was 6 years old, and when he returns to Willow and doesn't notice her, she finally decides to move on with her life. It could have been the changes in her looks that caught his eye, or the fact that he was already watching her because of her close proximity to a case he is working. But either way, it is something he can't walk away from.

I am so used to 500+ page books from KA, that this one seemed kind of short, but really wasn't. The "impact, life and death moment" was a little confusing, and didn't really seem as important as maybe it should have been. It was more like a tie-in for the next book? Don't know, either way it didn't take away from how much I like Raid and Hannah. I was on the fence about this series, but now I am all in! Love it!
