A killer is stalking Chicago, preying on humans and leaving his victims with magical souvenirs. The CPD hasn’t been able to track the assailant, and as the body count rises, the city is running out of options. Vampires and humans aren’t on great terms, but murder makes for strange bedfellows. The synopsis does nothing for this book. The story isn't really even about the new killer stalking Chicago. It's about the end game for Ethan and the GP. It's all been coming down to this final event to see how the GP will respond. How will all of this play out? Ethan issued his challenge in the last book, and now we wait for Darius to respond. But there are a few GP surprises that get in the way. Another GP mystery is on the fringes getting in the way before we can proceed with Ethan's challenge, and as if Merit and the gang didn't have enough to do, they have to deal with a killer on the loose. Honestly, this is a "bridge" story, it gets us from the status quo of GP life to a whole new era in vampire politics. Not my favorite of this series, but definitely a stepping stone to get us to what I think will be the most exciting era yet.
